Hi,
let me introduce ourselves.
My name is Chris, and my wife is Roz.
We live in Perth, Western Australia, and our family home consists of
Angus, our old and trusted Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Phoebe, our
American Staffordshire Terrier, and Clary the cat (whom Phoebe
loves!).
I
originally started out with Staffordshire Bull Terriers some 14
years ago - a little Stafford bitch named Gemma was my
introduction to the breed. Words can not describe her - she
was my best friend. As she was not "show
quality" I decided to do obedience with her, and this is
where I first met Trevor and then Chris of Tothemax Kennels.
Gemma was a dream to work with (she probably spoilt me - I thought
"this obedience caper is easy". How wrong I
was! Different dogs, different personalities.) When
Gemma was around 3 years old I decided to trial her, and she just
flew through to gain her CD with two first places and a second, all
in the 190 plus range. She gained one first place when we
ventured out in to the ring again for CDX when she was about 9 or
10, however as she was getting on I did not go any further with
her. I lost Gemma three years ago to cancer at the age of 13
and a half, and I still miss her dearly.
Angus
came in to my life 12 years ago, and he is a real character - we
call him Mr Happy as his tail never stops wagging. He too
gained his CD title, and was half way to his Championship title when
a knee problem forced me to retire him.
After
I lost Gemma I started to look more seriously at the American
Staffordshire Terrier. I had liked them for years but there
weren't too many of them around in those early days. By this
time more were starting to appear here in Western Australia, and I
was impressed with what I saw. This is where my good friends
Trevor and Chris came in - they had a litter on the ground from Ch
Tothemax Justified (Randy). As they knew Roz and I were
interested they told us to come and have a look. Well that was
it, we HAD to have one. Due to Trevor and Chris' generosity we
were told we could have pick bitch of the litter, as they knew I was
interested in showing. We picked our little blue fawn girl,
who we named Pheobe (Ch Tothemax Timeforachange). And what a
show dog we got We couldn't be happier. She had
enough points for her title before she was twelve months of age,
however here in W.A. a dog under twelve months cannot be granted a
title, so she officially gained her title at 14 months of age by
taking out Best of Breed and Junior in Show at a Terrier Club of W.A.
Champ show. She has taken numerous Best of Breeds, Reserve In
Group and Class in Group. She has also won the inaugural
American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Western Australia's Bitch
Point Score award. (for more details on her achievements
please visit her page.)
I
was one of the founding committee members of the Amstaff Club of
Western Australia, and for many years assisted in the instruction at
the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Western Australia's obedience
nights, and am now assisting the Amstaff Club with instruction on
their obedience nights.
